Are your astrology readings overwhelming your clients with too much information? Learn how to zero in on the most impactful elements of a chart and deliver more meaningful, memorable guidance.

Intro

In my astrology practice, I aim to help clients leave each reading with a few strong, impactful insights rather than feeling overwhelmed by all the details of their natal chart. By focusing on key points in the chart, I can provide meaningful guidance that clients can truly benefit from. In this article, I will explain how this approach works to help astrologers like you do the same and leave individuals with a more meaningful and memorable experience.

Why It Matters

A lot of astrologers, including myself when I first started, can be overwhelmed during initial readings. Astrology has many approaches but especially in Transpersonal Astrology (or Archetypal Astrology) the purpose of an astrology reading is to leave the recipient with increased awareness about themselves. Trying to fit the meaning of every sign, planet, and house into the reading, often referred to as "delineating a chart," leaves clients confused as they try to remember a plethora of zodiac signs, houses, and what everything means.

We astrologers sometimes forget that it took us years to understand this symbolic language. Instead of conducting readings this way, the only way to truly connect with the client is to listen to them and their needs, then hone in on the part of the chart that will best assist with their current concerns or areas of concentration. I advocate for more targeted, focused astrology readings, where you can present the guidance to the person with clarity and openness.

Zoom-In

As a starting point for a reading, I focus on the Sun, Moon, and Ascendant. In other cases, I would look at more general facets of a chart, such as important configurations and the chart pattern, if one exists.

A lot can be derived from this, especially in the case of a bowl or bucket where a lot of energy is directed in one place. Conversely, a person with a splash chart may have a variety of interests and focus on many things at once.

Often, a person seeking an astrology reading is struggling to make a choice between two things. Or they may be having relationship issues and want to find ways to connect more fully with their partner or friend. Although Saturn has been seen as "malevolent," I redefine this to be the area where most responsibility must be taken. This is where one learns to master something and may encounter fears of doing so. Questions about major life changes often show up with Saturn and any aspects it makes or any transits that affect it.

Once an astrologer feels free to focus on 2-3 areas rather than everything, they can become far more effective and go deeper into one area, empowering the client.

Go Deeper

Every astrologer should question their own assumptions about signs, outer planets, and aspects. For example, redefining how we look at aspects is important. It's been a knee-jerk reaction to assert that squares and oppositions are negative and that trines and sextiles are easy, but this is too simplistic. We must avoid blanket "good or bad" labels.

The same goes for outer planets, which often bring transformative movements that align us with our deeper purpose. Though these may come in the form of loss or painful self-awareness, labeling them as bad reduces astrology's value. Instead, use chart points to see where significant energy is taking place, not where something bad is happening. After all, great healing can come from great loss.

Bottom Line

By concentrating on a few key areas, astrologers can offer clients meaningful guidance that helps them make informed decisions and take positive actions in their lives. I recommend focusing on:

  • The Sun, Moon & Ascendant
  • Chart Patterns
  • Natal Saturn & its Transits

Adopting a focused approach in astrology readings not only makes sessions more impactful but also empowers clients by providing clear interpretations.
